Mourinho has angered UEFA again

Well, we've done it again. We've managed to rile up UEFA. Only this time it was with a comment so undeniably mild, that it seems impossible to believe anyone would take offence! Mourinho stated that he did not feel that the goal on Tuesday by Luis Garcia was a goal, and that the linesman perhaps felt the pressure of the homecrowd and made a bad call.

So what? Time after time, managers in football make comments like this, unhappy with one call or another - surely referees should see such statements as par for the course; in a game where there can be only one winner, there is a 50% chance that someone will be unhappy with the match, and an even greater chance that the unhappy party will make their displeasure known.

The media has gotten to such a point that they are virtually part of the teams now, with various pundits taking an obvious shine to one team or another during matches. It is therefore an automatic choice when one is searching for an outlet for one's displeasure at something that occured during the match. Look at the post-match press conference -- the FA has made it mandatory that a representative from the team participate in it; it is a long hard leap to go from requesting conversation with media, to regulating what is said to that media. Definitely not one that Mourinho seems ready to make.

And good on 'im. About time someone questioned the double standard these governing bodies hold.

But will UEFA see it that way? The rumour is that Mourinho will be facing another UEFA penalty for his comments. Do we care?
Our Verdict: UEFA can go fly a kite.
