Jamie Carragher has been chosen to sit in for John Terry in this weekend's England International against Wales in a World Cup Qualifier.
Some people are extremely nervous about his presence - they blame him for the loss in England's friendly against Denmark, as his arrival in the second half coincided with the four goals slammed into the back of the net by the Danes.
Many media outlets recently though would have you believe that Carragher is a fantastic centre half who is equivalent to Terry in skill and ability. Some even refer to him as "Majestic".
However, Carragher himself disagress with that statement, saying instead that he recognizes the flaws in his play and knows that he is not now, nor will he ever be, a first choice International player. Unlike Terry, he is not the superstar that others on the team are, and for this reason, knows that any chance he gets to play for his country is to be taken advantage of.
Depite media coverage to the contrary, it is obvious that it is not only Chelsea fans who feel that Carragher's presence at the back is substandard. England manager Sven Goran-Eriksson also feels the same way.
At least, that is the impression one gets from his recent formation change. Gone is the two striker formation, with a dynamic centre midfield capable of attack.
Instead a strong central midfield holds, while two wingers and a striker lead the way, taking pressure off the back line - Sven knows his back line can't handle the attack from opponents, so he is loading up his midfield with strong players like Lampard, Beckham and Gerrard capable of holding the line and shoring up the defence.
Without Terry, the back four need all the help they can get. So Sven has had to change his formation to accomodate a less than superstar defence.
Our Verdict: Terry rules the back line
