Wayne Bridge is rumoured to be injured and unable to play for 3 weeks, directly affecting his participation in the England Friendly this week. His injury proves a massive blow to Chelsea, just when the back line was starting to get back into some kind of semblance of form and regularity; the return of Terry has provided a boost to the players again, but another empty spot at the back is going to be difficult to deal with.
With Bridge gone, there are questions again over who will slot in at the back, this time on the left rather than in the centre. Cole or Robben, who have been used to slot in at times of injury mid-match are not available due to injury as well, so it looks as though the club is back to square one with defensive line injuries. Unless one takes into account that Robben is playing for Holland this week -- perhaps he is ready to go for Chelsea now too?
However, many think that Bridge's injury may not be so serious after all, and perhaps even non-existent. The last thing Chelsea need is a defensive player getting injured in an International Friendly, and many feel that at the slightest twinge, Bridge pulled out in an effort to retain what he can for the Club, perhaps at prompting from Mourinho to do so.
Media reports indicate that an injury has definitely occurred and that he may be out for as long as 3 weeks.
Yet the Chelsea FC website mentions only the injury occuring, and makes no mention of the extent of the injury nor the amount of time Bridge is estimated to be out of action. Could this be the media trying to drum up more excitement for Man U and salivating at the prospect that Chelsea may indeed be "finished off" with this injury? Most likely.
