Lamps Injury Changes Villa Plans

The injury of Frank Lampard has left a gap in midfield for the Blues that not only affects plans at Villa Park this weekend, but also for the near future - a date of return has not been set yet.

Lampard is not the only injured player in the club this week though.

Michael Ballack is recovering from surgery, Ricardo Carvalho is still out injured, and Wayne Bridge, despite a light training regime, is still out as well.

In addition to this, Glen Johnson has been sold to Portsmouth.

Malouda was rumoured to have taken a knock in training this week, but is expected to play against Villa. And Belletti is expected to make an appearance as well.

The injuries may affect Jose's plans surrounding a starting formation; many thought that the starting formation would be the successful 4-4-2 one that has been seen so often this season. Will Lampard's injury affect this plan?

Perhaps. The thought is that we will be reverting back to a formation of old, with a holding midfielder in Maka, but simply slot Essien into Lamps' spot.

Here is our predicted Lampard-less Starting XI:

Cech
Belletti - Ben Haim - Terry - A. Cole
Makelele
SWP - Essien - Malouda
Drogba - Kalou

Bench: Cudiccini, Ferreira, Mikel, Cole, Shevchenko

Te match will not be a easy one, and will challenge the boys once again to turn a history of draws into a win at Villa Park - something that hasn't been done by Chelsea since 1999.
Our Verdict: We'll feel that in the morning!
