The latest rumour flying around is that Etoo and Deco have signed up with Chelsea in a deal worth more than £40m. This rumour of course doesn't end there. The signing of one inevitably means the departure of another?

For the last 2 years there has been talk that Drogba would be leaving the Blues. The Ivorian said himself that he eventually wanted to move on from Chelsea; aws recently as last season he was talking about leaving for France again. His recent antics both on pitch and off have led some to believe that he would be leaving the club this summer, willing participant or otherwise!

So does Etoo coming in mean Drogs is leaving? Not necessarily. No doubt, Shevchenko will be leaving. But lets not forget that we also have Pizarro and Anelka in the wings who many feel overstayed their welcome after only a few starts last season. If those three leave, then we cannot afford to let Drogba leave as well.

Lampard has yet to sign a contract - there was chat last summer and there is chat again this summer, that the fabulous midfielder will leave Stamford Bridge. This time, his motivation may be stronger though, as his head turns towards Inter and Mourinho. Deco's supposed entrance doesn't help matters. It is hard to imagine a midfield made up of Lampard, Ballack, Essien and Deco; surely there isn't room for all of them is there? It would definitely make for an interesting team selection each week.

However, some hold that Deco is only being signed at Chelsea so the club can use him to make a deal for another player. A Deco-Lampard swap doesn't make alot of tactical sense. But a Deco-Quaresma or Deco-Simao swap is definitely a more logical one. In this case, Lampard would be staying right where he is alongside Ballack and Essien, both of whom have pledged their committment to Chelsea already, and the club would have some bargaining power in Deco.

As the start of next season draws ever closer, the rumours will only start to get sillier and sillier. However, the Lampard and Drogba departure rumours hold some merit, and the supposed entrances of Etoo and Deco don't help to displel those. If anything, they only seem to make the potential seem inevitable.
